PS: The "best" DSP I have heard actually has a sort of smoothing/homogenizing effect, not entirely dissimilar to FM.Bingo. But I would quibble with the homogenizing aspects of FM through an excellent vintage tuner because many transients an...

I think, it is useful to go back a little bit in time, when talking about Tuners. In the 50‘ and 60‘s records (and the their Equipment) was VERY expensive, it was a Hobby for the upperclass. For general public the Tuner was the main unit to...

[quote user="misnacat"] I'm not engaged to my Accuphase though I do care about it.I read your comment on the ASP antenna and went to their site. In their tuner section for alignment and repairs they have amoung other tuners a T100 featured I assu...

[quote user="Dave_at_BW_Broadcast"]The development team like to be a little secretive when it comes to the nitty gritty of the design of the tuner. A lot of it is proprietary and follows from extensive R'nD time and cost.

Sometimes ago I received an email from a NY guy that I know:
“I borrowed a friend's Sansui TU-X1 and just like I heard them at your place it sounds fantastic! What is it about this tuner? There is such an ease to the presentation and no distra...

If not working on the HF to get the ambiance, which probably would be the "moronic" way to accomplish it, then is it some lower bass? There's a hint on Romy's comment about his new tuner having better low bass response than any other source. Perhaps ...

I have noted before that the quietly of sound that I’m getting from FM broadcast, or even from the regular FM transmissions of the regular CDs, is insultingly beautiful and not really compatible with Sound that I get out of my CD and LPs.

Well, Doug
My attraction to HD Radio statred from the moment when I learned that my WGBH does one less step of analog compression for DH1 compare to FM and do not use limiting-out at HD2 for live-to-tape recordings. Very promising, isn’t it?&n...

Adrian,
I am not sure if I understand you correctly but if I do then I did NOT experience this effect with both of my TU-X1. Does is exist only with one station? If yes, then the station might possess signal in some odd way…

After dealing with my tuner pick digital noise from my AD and DA, and particularly from Lavry DAC, I loaded Lavry with quite substantial amount of ferrite anti-RF filters:

Adrian, was your PP1500 noise present ONLY in the phono section or across the sources/components? My tuner and digital work like a wonder, only phono picks the noise. I read your earlier description and my noise is not high pitched but rather upper b...

Figuring out how to switch REL Precedent’s IM bandwidth to more suitable for Stereo operation I was wondering about something else. The 250kHz window though which the REL Precedent looks to the FM band is might be fine for DXing or having good select...

Yes, with 192kHz A/D they have enough room they do multiplexing. Since they are at 192kHz then 48 kHz of output sound reasonable, I hope it is 20bit. Howe be, the key in here is not the tuner but rather a recording endearment and your desire to commi...

You would not need any “special” A/D converters, as I did impose any demeaned to “quality”. All you that you need to have a more or less reasonable tuner, a good antenna, strong reception and an ability to write it up at 24/44 or 24/88/ Also it is ne...

That is very interesting post Romy. I noticed that I have changed a lot of CD-Players and Dacs over the years until I found the sound I wanted, but only had to change my Tuner once, and my analog playback has been the same for years and years n...

I use now a voltage divider sitting at the Melquiades’s inputs (The older, ‘better” version of EVS attenuators). As the sources I use whatever: CD, LP, Tuner…. it does not mater. Currently I’m working (or tying to force myself working) on an interest...

Dear Romy,
My tests showed 2 separate types of noise/interference being caused when TU-X1 & DA-924 were switched ON while the TU-X1 was set to OUTPUT FM: -
First noise/interference, the Sansui TU-X1 was passing an AM broadcast on VARIABLE OUTPU...

When I said that AM sounded in the Sansui as good as FM in other tuners, I meant just that, not that AM was as good as FM. FM in the Sansui is in a league of its own, but its AM is so good too that sounds better than most FM tuners or portable radios...

Zako, the first order of business is programming; ie, what sort of music could you enjoy, best case? In my own situation, the quality of the tuner is the least of my problems!I am getting to the point where I wonder if computer-sourced program might...

It was a bit tricky to make it works. The Schwarz original crystal is imposable to get and the new one that I got from ICMC had different internal capacitance, so I was forced to shut them with additional inductance to let the oscillators to fire up ...
